(Shipyard)
 
  • Hours: 40 hours per week (Work that exceeds 40 hours is considered OT)
  • Hourly Pay: $29 - $31.50 (depending on experience)
    • OT is offered
 
A well-established Gulf Coast shipyard is seeking an experienced Welder to join the team in Pensacola, FL. This is an on-site, hands-on role supporting ship construction, repair, and conversion projects. Candidates should live locally, or within a reasonable driving distance, as no relocation or per diem is provided.
 
Job Summary: 
We are seeking skilled tradesmen to perform welding on metal components as directed by blueprints, work orders, and supervisor instructions. This role requires knowledge of metalworking properties, welding processes, and the proper use of welding equipment.
 
Welders in this position join structural components that have been previously fitted and tacked into place, following the work of pipefitters and fitters. Work may involve welding in multiple positionsincluding flat, overhead, and vertical, depending on the project requirements.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Set up welding equipment, select electrodes/wire, and adjust power supply (amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse) per job specifications.
  • Prepare surfaces and components for welding, including grinding, cleaning, and fitting.
  • Weld together structural metal components that have been pre-assembled and tacked in place.
  • Operate welding processes (manual electrode, MIG, TIG, or wire-feed gun) to maintain correct arc length, depth of fusion, and bead quality.
  • Inspect completed welds for quality and compliance with specifications.
  • Remove excess weld, slag, and splatter using grinders, pneumatic chippers, scaling guns, and hand tools.
  • Maintain welding tools, equipment, and machines in good working order.
  • Work in a variety of environments, including elevated areas, confined spaces, and restricted entry openings (18”–24”).
  • Follow all shipyard safety standards and procedures, including use of PPE and respirators when required.
  • Assist with general shipyard duties such as cleanup, moving equipment, or supporting other trades when needed.
 
Tools & Equipment Used
  • Welding machines, electrode holders, and wire-feed guns.
  • Power grinders, scaling guns, pneumatic chippers, chipping hammers.
  • Measuring tools and general hand tools.
  • PPE including respirator when required.
  • Shipyard will provide most tools, some basic tools will be employee provided: Welding Shield, Leathers, Safety Toed Shoes, Needle Nose Pliers, Cresent Wrench
 


Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to carry a welding box (up to 50 lbs) and welding leads (coiled, up to 45 lbs.) across distances within the shipyard.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, pushing/pulling, reaching, and handling of tools.
  • Work may involve kneeling, crawling, crouching, stooping, climbing, and working at elevated heights.
  • Ability to work in confined or enclosed spaces with limited access openings (18”–24”).
  • Frequent handling of tools and materials requiring up to 30–40 lbs of force.
  • Good hand control and fine motor skills required for precise welding work.
 
Qualifications
  • Prior welding experience, ideally in a shipyard, industrial, or marine environment.
  • Skilled in using stick, MIG, and TIG processes.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and adapt to different work environments.
  • Strong safety awareness and reliability.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the Pensacola shipyard.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. – Sponsorship cannot be provided now or in the future
 
Safety Requirements
  • Follow all OSHA regulations and shipyard safety procedures.
  • Use fall protection when working from heights or near open edges; inspect harnesses and lanyards before use.
  • Ensure rails are in place around all deck openings.
  • Maintain proper ventilation when working in confined spaces to avoid welding and burning fumes.
  • Protect yourself from UV radiation during welding operations.
  • Required PPE at all times: Hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, and safety-toed shoes.
  • Additional PPE as needed: Respirators and fall protection gear in designated areas.
