Plant Supervisor
Job Description
Sirius Staffing is seeking a Plant Operations Supervisor to lead a team of central utility plant operators located on the grounds of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. This role combines technical expertise with administrative leadership to ensure the reliable operation of campus utility systems.
The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach to developing and mentoring an evolving team, overseeing daily plant performance, and managing key administrative functions such as scheduling, payroll, overtime distribution, and compliance reporting. This position is ideal for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, technical environment and leads by example.
Schedule: Wednesday- Sunday
• Intended to be a 40-hour work week, though on average it will be closer to 50 hours.
• Standard schedule is weekdays, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
• Candidate must be flexible to work evenings, weekends, and additional overtime as needed.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day operations of plant systems, including steam boilers, turbines, generators, chillers, and related equipment, as well as future combined heat and power (CHP) systems.
- Lead, train, and mentor operators to build strong technical capabilities in steam, hot water, chilled water, and CHP systems.
- Manage a unionized workforce, ensuring effective communication and adherence to collective bargaining agreements.
- Develop and maintain training programs to align operator performance with best industry practices.
- Handle administrative duties such as scheduling, overtime management, payroll, and documentation.
- Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company HSE standards.
- Coordinate maintenance activities, shutdowns, and repairs; review logs and work orders through the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiency, reliability improvement, and environmental impact reduction.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and management teams, as well as external utility partners, to achieve plant objectives.
- Remain available for response during extreme weather events or emergencies.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Safety is a core priority. The Supervisor will:
- Foster a proactive, injury-free workplace culture.
- Comply with all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
- Promptly report hazards, injuries, or unsafe conditions.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, including respirators and fall protection.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in one or more of the following: district energy, utilities, water treatment, hospital/campus operations, boiler/chiller plants, commercial HVAC, industrial processing, or chemical/refining industries.
- Prior leadership experience in a unionized environment strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proven hands-on experience with boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, generators, air compressors, water systems, MCCs, and switchgear.
- Solid understanding of CHP systems, including electrical and thermal energy processes.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to direct corrective actions.
- Proficient with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Experience in training and evaluating operators.
- Working knowledge of safety and environmental compliance standards.
- Ability to analyze system data to improve performance and efficiency.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification (or ability to obtain).
Other Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and perform physically demanding work.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with HMI/Delta V systems.
- Valid Louisiana driver’s license and clean driving record (meeting company insurance standards).
- Must successfully complete background check and drug screening.
