Job Description

Job Title: Field Service Engineer
Location: Richmond, Virginia area, and neighboring territories
Pay Rate: $31.00 per hour
Required Experience: Water treatment experience
Additional Compensation & Allowances:
  • Car allowance: Up to $50/day (max $2,000/month)
  • Fuel reimbursement for business-related travel
  • Internet reimbursement: Up to $75/month
  • Company-paid expenses (submitted via Fieldglass)
Position Overview
The Field Service Engineer (FSE) is responsible for the installation, repair, preventative maintenance, and qualification of water purification systems throughout the Richmond territory. This role also provides backup support to neighboring territories as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical/electrical aptitude, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to manage a field-based schedule with shifting priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, repair, qualify, and perform preventative maintenance on water purification systems.
  • Deliver all services within expected timelines (PMs completed in the month due, installs within two weeks of site readiness, repairs within customer-requested timeframe, 24-hour–2-week response window).
  • Follow all customer on-site rules, safety guidelines, and housekeeping standards.
  • Accurately complete Work Orders and documentation daily; close all Work Orders on the same day.
  • Provide customers with detailed documentation (Service Reports, Meter Verification Reports, Routine Maintenance paperwork, etc.).
  • Maintain an accurate, updated daily schedule and communicate proactively with customers. Notify management if schedules impact customer satisfaction.
  • Manage consignment inventory per SOP, ensuring accuracy and adherence to value limits.
  • Maintain all tools and test equipment in proper working order and calibration.
  • Use CRM tools to generate leads for service contracts, consumables, hardware, and accessories.
  • Maintain professional, timely communication with internal and external customers.
  • Respond to emergency service calls within a 2-hour callback window and up to a 24-hour onsite requirement.
  • Follow the NA Fleet Vehicle Policy and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Assist with custom-engineered system installations under the direction of management.
  • Submit expense reports bi-weekly.
  • Meet customer credentialing requirements (vendor compliance, background checks, immunizations, etc.).
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering, OR equivalent technical training.
     Military or professional electronics/mechanical experience may substitute.
  • OR High School Diploma/GED with 3+ years of field service or skilled trade experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of field service experience required.
  • Water treatment experience required.
Technical Requirements
  • Proficiency with basic tools and test equipment (hand tools, power tools, test boxes, verification meters).
  • Basic IT skills: ability to communicate with equipment via computer, upload software, and use iPad/iPhone for service tasks.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical documentation.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs independently; up to 165 lbs with assistance.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, including overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to handle difficult customer situations professionally.
  • Passport required or ability to obtain one.
  • Overnight travel required (10–60% depending on territory and training needs).
Safety & Compliance Requirements
This position requires: 
  • Respirator use (EHS-defined) | Exposure to chemicals requiring PPE
  • Occasional heavy lifting (20+ lbs)
