Civil/Structural Designer – Industrial Facilities
Theodore, AL 
Contract to Direct 
 
We’re seeking a skilled Civil/Structural Designer to lead and support design efforts for industrial facility projects. This role involves developing detailed structural plans, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, overseeing construction, and mentoring junior staff to deliver high-quality, code-compliant solutions.
 
Pay: $40+ (will consider higher rates, BOE) 
Benefits Offered + PTO and Holiday Pay 
 
Work Schedule: Typically, 4/10s Mon-Thur 7a-5p 
 
Requirements: 
  • 5+ years of experience in civil/structural engineering design or a related functional area (or equivalent practical knowledge).
  • Certification in Computer-Aided Drafting/Design (CADD) and/or relevant hands-on experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, CADWORX 3D, and NAVISWORKS Viewer for 3D modeling and design review.
  • In-depth knowledge of civil/structural engineering principles, equipment specifications, and technical drawings.
  • Experience with industrial site development, including drainage, earthworks, roadways, foundations, structural steel, and concrete design (preferred).
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards such as IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design efforts across multiple projects and disciplines while delivering high-quality results.
  • Proficient in creating one-line diagrams, loop sheets, and panel layouts for industrial applications.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Able to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, policies, and procedures.
  • Highly effective design skills with a consistent focus on quality, accuracy, and timely delivery.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Flexible and committed to maintaining high standards of work.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Independently manage small to mid-sized projects under the direction of the lead engineer; support larger projects by overseeing defined scope areas and potentially leading the discipline effort with oversight.
  • Develop structural designs and detailed drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Navisworks, or similar tools.
  • Design structural components for industrial facilities, including steel frameworks, foundations, culverts, and retaining walls.
  • Interface with clients, managers, and project leads on technical matters, staffing, and resource needs.
  • Oversee construction activities to ensure accurate implementation of design specifications.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress and make necessary design adjustments.
  • Perform structural investigations and recommend solutions or rehabilitation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with project objectives, applicable codes, and safety regulations; provide safety guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive project execution.
  • Prepare, review, and approve technical documentation, including general arrangement drawings, specifications, and calculation packages.
  • Manage project budgets and schedules, monitor progress, and communicate scope changes to project leadership.
  • Support the development of company standards and work processes.
  • Mentor drafters and designers provide feedback and verify drafting accuracy and adherence to CAD standards.
  • Assemble and issue construction design packages in accordance with company procedures.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks, ensuring they are completed accurately and on time.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
 
Physical Demands
  • May be required to work inside an active plant environment, which demands normal hearing, vision, and physical mobility, including standing, walking, climbing, and balancing.
  • Must be able to sit and work at a desk using a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and drive to and from job sites as needed.
  • Must be capable of bending, stooping, climbing stairs or ladders, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must attend site walks in high-temperature conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Travel may be required, including short-notice site visits to client facilities and travel between office locations in South Alabama and South Louisiana.
