Position Summary
We are seeking a highly self-motivated and detail-oriented Data Research Analyst & Technical Documentation Specialist to join our growing data operations team. This hybrid role combines the analytical expertise of a Database Support Analyst, the technical proficiency of an SQL Report Developer, and the clarity of a skilled Technical Writer.
We are seeking a highly self-motivated and detail-oriented Data Research Analyst & Technical Documentation Specialist to join our growing data operations team. This hybrid role combines the analytical expertise of a Database Support Analyst, the technical proficiency of an SQL Report Developer, and the clarity of a skilled Technical Writer.
In this position, you will be instrumental in dissecting existing SQL processes, uncovering table relationships, and making sense of undocumented logic and workflows. As current documentation is minimal, the ideal candidate will thrive in ambiguity, operate independently, and take full ownership of tasks from investigation through documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Data Research & Investigation
- Analyze databases to understand relationships between tables, stored procedures, and reporting logic.
- Reverse-engineer SQL queries and ETL processes to map existing workflows.
- Trace data flow across systems where documentation is incomplete or absent.
SQL & Reporting Development
- Develop and maintain SQL-based reports (ad hoc and scheduled) based on business requirements.
- Review, troubleshoot, and optimize existing queries and stored procedures for performance and accuracy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and address reporting needs.
Technical Writing & Documentation
- Create clear, comprehensive documentation of data flows, processes, and technical systems.
- Develop user guides, process diagrams, and technical reference materials for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain version control and ensure all documentation remains current and accessible.
Ownership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Take end-to-end ownership of assigned tasks—from discovery through delivery.
- Proactively investigate and validate system functionality with minimal guidance.
- Contribute to bringing clarity and structure to a fast-paced, documentation-light environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proficient in SQL (e.g., T-SQL, PL/SQL), with experience analyzing and deconstructing complex queries.
- Demonstrated ability to independently investigate undocumented systems and processes.
- Exceptional technical writing and documentation skills.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
