Boiler/Kiln Operator (Supervisor preferred)  – Opelika, AL
Employment type: Direct Hire, Full-time, on-site leadership role 
Salary: $75K–$100K/year + Relocation Assistance
Schedule: Typical Mon– Friday, but will need to be available to report for emergencies

We’re seeking a Boiler/Kiln Operator to manage all kiln and boiler operations, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. 

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Oversee all operations in the Boiler and Kiln department, ensuring safe work practices and regulatory compliance
  • Lead kiln scheduling, quality stacking/loading/drying practices, and daily audits
  • Coordinate operator schedules and step in to provide coverage when needed
  • Conduct system inspections and identify performance improvement opportunities
  • Tune thermal units for maximum efficiency and minimal emissions
  • Maintain documentation for thermal energy and lumber drying processes
  • Manage kiln inventory, boiler chemicals, and spare parts
  • Plan and assign maintenance activities, including preventative checks
  • Train and certify forklift operators
  • Collaborate with stacker teams, yard management, and plant leadership
  • Drive continuous improvement through audits, inspections, and quality testing
 
What You Bring:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Energy System operations supervision (preferably with single-fire chip kilns or biomass-fueled systems)
  • Must have a good understanding of energy systems in general — does not have to be kiln-specific; experience with boilers, thermal units, or other comparable systems applies
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (technical certifications a plus)
  • A background in the wood products industry is strongly preferred
  • Solid knowledge of kiln schedules, moisture content control, and yard operations
  • Familiarity with biomass combustion using bark or wood waste as fuel
  • Leadership in a mill or manufacturing setting preferred 
  • Experience with preventative maintenance, safety procedures, and audits
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic reporting/scheduling tools
  • Physically able to perform yard inspections and manage outdoor operations
  • Willingness to relocate to Opelika, AL – relocation assistance available
