Instrumentation Engineer

Job Description
- Will perform necessary calculations and design effort to prepare deliverables as needed
- Participates in the selection and specification of field instrumentation and control valves with minimal supervision
- Contributes to the selection and specification of control system hardware and in the development of mechanical and electrical installation details for instrumentation and controls, including code-specific requirements
- Takes part in the design and hardware selection of bus technologies and in the development of cabling and wiring methods for instrumentation and control panels
- Enters data into the instrument project database
- Provides instrumentation input to P&IDs
- Coordinates work with Designers and Engineers on projects; both across disciplines and within the Instrumentation team
- Develops and writes discipline scope, deliverables, assumptions, and estimates budget for proposals
- Identifies and communicates any scope changes for the Instrumentation team on assigned projects
- Gathers field data and assists with onsite support as necessary
- Participates in construction support, startup, and commissioning efforts as necessary
- Follows the company's Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards, ensuring quality and technical accuracy of project deliverables
- Establishes and manages their own engineering schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree preferred, but not required
- 10+ years of experience, preferably working closely with chemical processing facilities
- Extensive understanding of P&IDs, process flow maps, and process instrument and valve technologies (level, flow, temperature, pressure, etc.)
- Experience developing instrument specifications and working within instrument databases
- Understanding of control panel design concepts, motor controls, and VFDs
- Familiar with bus technologies, hardware selection, and applications
- Ability to understand and mark up loop drawings and detailed wiring schematics
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficient presentation, math, and analytical skills
- Positive conflict resolution and decision-making skills
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks with strong decision-making skills
