Junior Process Engineer

Job Description

Sirius Staffing is seeking a Junior Process Engineer to join our Process Technology Team. This contract-to-perm position is based in Theodore, AL, and has a 4/10 schedule (7-5 or 6-4, off Fridays), occasionally shifting to a 5/8 schedule based on project needs. This role offers an excellent opportunity for junior-level engineers to support senior staff and project teams.

Pay range- $30-40/hr BOE 

Requirement: 
  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 1+ years of practical experience gained through internships or co-op programs.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
  • US Citizenship or Green card required.
Additional requirement:  Candidates must submit three professional references with a resume.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Communicate resource needs for assigned projects to the Discipline Manager and collaborate on securing resources.
  • Offer technical oversight, delegate tasks to junior/mid-level engineers, and monitor project progress as necessary.
  • Visit client sites to assist with project execution and proposal activities.
  • Address technical questions and participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports, and follow required checking procedures.
  • Develop, review, and approve process engineering deliverables such as PFDs, HMBs, and P&IDs.
  • Utilize process simulation software (e.g., CHEMCAD, Aspen HYSYS) for modeling.
  • Conduct line sizing, velocity, and pressure drop calculations.
  • Develop scopes of work, proposals, and service estimates for process engineering projects.
  • Ensure clarity in project scope and manage changes according to project change management processes.
  • Perform equipment sizing and specifications for process equipment (vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, etc.).
  • Conduct PSV sizing and overpressure analysis and evaluate relief systems (flare).
  • Lead process engineering studies, develop process design documents, and write technical reports.
  • Maintain Management of Change (MoC) logs and seek client approval for design changes.
  • Participate as a technical expert in PHA reviews for assigned projects.
  • Provide input during project design reviews and respond promptly to interdisciplinary inquiries.
  • Review and comment on interdisciplinary deliverables such as piping layouts, isometrics, and equipment specifications.
  • Support procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Stay current with developments and innovations in process engineering.
  • Participate in team-building activities and address issues, seeking assistance when needed.
 
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Flexibility, integrity, and a high degree of professionalism are required.
  • Solid understanding of process engineering fundamentals and basic knowledge of other engineering fields.
  • Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong technical engineering skills, consistently delivering high-quality, accurate, and timely work.
  • Familiar with local and international standards, as well as regulatory requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of general process equipment specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents.
  • Capable of understanding policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and goal-oriented.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal and external interactions.
  • Commitment to meeting high-quality standards.
  • Must be punctual, dependable, and have a good attendance record.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a background check and drug/alcohol tests, with participation in random drug testing required.
 
Physical Demands
 
  • Work assignments may require being inside an operating plant, necessitating normal hearing, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, and clear close/distance vision with depth perception and focus.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and use a keyboard.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and climb ladders or stairs.
  • Must be able to travel as needed.
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle to job sites or other office locations, when needed. 
  • Must be able to attend job walks in PPE within an operating facility, potentially in a hot climate.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
