Job Description

Sirius Staffing is seeking multiple Microbiology Technicians for multiple shifts in the Birmingham, AL area. This position requires a strong background in microbiology, as well as experience working in a pharmaceutical manufacturing or similar regulated environment.

Pay: $29/hr + benefits + PTO and Holiday Pay 

Schedule Information: Training will start Monday through Friday, 8a–5p, and then transition to an assigned schedule. 
Multiple Post-Training Schedules (based on needs):
  • Sunday – Wednesday,  6:30 AM – 5:30 PM  
  • Wednesday – Saturday, 6:30 AM – 5:30 PM 
  • Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 12:00 AM  2nd Shift 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform Environmental Monitoring (EM) of classified areas, including:
    • Active/passive air sampling
    • RODAC and swab sampling for bacteria and fungi
    • CliMet air sampling for total particulates
    • Trend EM data to detect anomalies and characterize transient/resident microflora
  • Conduct routine Utilities Testing, including:
    • City water: total microbial count and absence of enteric organisms
    • Pre-treated water, clean steam, and Water for Injection (WFI): microbial count and endotoxin presence
    • Nitrogen and process air: microbial count and total particulate testing
  • Utilize classical microbiological methods to identify microorganisms
  • Support validation activities such as:
    • Biological indicator recovery
    • Bioburden rinse/swab testing
    • Endotoxin rinse and challenge vial testing
  • Enter and analyze data using the Microbiology Information Management System (MIMS)
  • Complete all GMP documentation accurately and in compliance with regulatory expectations
  • Ensure all test forms are complete before submission for review and approval
  • Perform duties in accordance with established quality systems and SOPs
  • Follow all safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures

 QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in a microbiology laboratory within an industrial, pharmaceutical environment. Experience within a clinical or academic microbiology lab may also be considered.
  • Proficient in microbiological testing and assays, including aseptic technique and microbial enumeration.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring (EM), including data trending and analysis.
  • Familiarity with testing pharmaceutical utilities (e.g., purified water, compressed gases, clean steam).
  • Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Ability to work safely with microorganisms and hot liquids.
  • Ability to wear and work while using a respirator, as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities or ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including spreadsheets, databases, and lab information systems (LIMS).
