Job Description

Sirius Staffing is seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Technician in Birmingham, AL. This is a 2nd Shift position working for a large pharmaceutical manufacturing site. This position requires microbiology experience and cGMP/GLP laboratory knowledge. Core duties include routine microbiological testing, regulatory documentation, and data analysis for utilities, raw materials, facilities, and equipment.

Pay: $29/hr + benefits, PTO, and holiday pay

 Schedule: Train Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM; transition to Monday–Friday, 4 PM–1 AM.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Environmental Monitoring: 
  • Monitor classified areas using active/passive air sampling, RODAC/swab surface sampling, and CliMet air sampling for bacteria, fungi, and total particulates. 
  • Analyze trends to detect anomalies and characterize transient and resident microflora.
Utilities Testing: Test city water for microbial counts and absence of enteric organisms.
  • Analyze pre-treated water, clean steam, and Water for Injection (WFI) for microbial count and endotoxins. 
  • Assess nitrogen and process air for microbial count and particulates.
Microbiological Testing & Validation: Identify microorganisms using classical microbiological methods. 
  • Perform validation activities, including biological indicator recovery, bioburden testing, endotoxin rinse, and challenge vial testing. 
  • Enter and analyze data using Microbiology Information Management Systems (MIMS).
GMP Compliance & Documentation: Document test results and conclusions following GMP standards.
  • Ensure test forms are complete before submission for approval.
  • Adheres to all company safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Safely conducts all laboratory activities by use of MSDS to establish chemical hazards, observes the appropriate laboratory procedures, and reports all incidents that could threaten the safety of laboratory personnel.
 QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical, academic, or industrial/pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory
  • Hands-on experience performing microbiological assays and testing
  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Strong understanding of environmental monitoring, trending, and utility testing (preferred)
  • Responsible for general laboratory upkeep, including inventory and supply management
  • Proficient in computer applications such as spreadsheets and databases
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills; strong attention to detail and leadership ability
  • Must be able to work safely with microorganisms and hot liquids
  • Must be able to wear and use a respirator as required
