This position has managerial responsibilities to oversee every aspect of asphalt logistics and customer service activities for the retail and wholesale asphalt business. The role is responsible for efficiently supplying terminals with asphalt, additives, and polymers via truck, rail, and barge, and interfacing with customers’ back-office employees to ensure their needs are being met or exceeded through the goods and services offered.
This position is also responsible for analyzing market intelligence data to assist Asphalt Regional Directors and Territory Managers in understanding historical pricing and sales information to help facilitate strategy and decision-making with changing market conditions. This includes analyzing Terminal profit and loss (P&L) statements to identify ways to improve margins in the retail asphalt business.
The position also assists in the business analysis of new and existing terminals to ensure the retail footprint strategy remains aligned with the overall business strategy for the asphalt business. This includes working closely with the Planning Department to provide forecasts and receive feedback around asphalt margins and profitability, which is then incorporated into the Asphalt Strategy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.)
- Directly manage asphalt logistics to ensure terminals are efficiently supplied to meet customers’ demand while minimizing working capital commitments.
- Coordinate the terminal supply of asphalt and supporting additives and polymers with terminal personnel, Asphalt Territory Managers, and refinery personnel to maintain a stable supply at terminals and refineries.
- Provide supervisory responsibilities for the Asphalt Marketing Analyst and ensure this position is adequately supported to provide customer support to customers’ back-office employees and front-line customers working with Sales Directors and Territory Managers.
- Provide ongoing P&L analysis to assess areas to enhance margins for the retail asphalt business.
- Optimize supply chain logistics; this position is directly responsible for logistics and can materially impact overall business performance through its efforts.
- Provide engineering and technical support for company-owned asphalt terminals, where needed.
- Manage small capital projects for asphalt terminals and follow the progress and construction of projects at leased terminals as required.
- Manage the review and approval of terminal expenses, which average over $20MM annually, and identify ways to optimize the business to enhance margins.
- Work with the Asphalt Technical Center (ATC) to optimize chemical usage and manage the $7MM+ annual spend on chemicals, polymers, and blend stocks.
- Coordinate asphalt shipments and movements with refinery and logistics personnel.
- Optimize logistics costs associated with the transport of asphalt to terminals, which average over $25MM annually.
- Work with yield accounting to develop and follow barrels around terminals.
- Participate in collecting market intelligence on wholesale asphalt pricing and inventory levels in pertinent geographic areas.
- Work with the ATC Technical Supervisor to resolve quality or blending issues associated with wholesale asphalt sales or purchases.
- Assist with the collection of market data and intelligence for the evaluation of new or existing terminal opportunities.
- Provide support as necessary for the evaluation of new business opportunities.
- Maintain positive working relationships with other departments of the company to promote the efficient administration of the marketing function.
- Some travel will be required; the position is expected to visit terminals and attend Asphalt Industry Events as directed.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with three or more years of experience, or
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related major with ten or more years of related experience.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and the analysis of numbers.

- Valid driver’s license.
