Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
- Participate in Start-up team activities and lead process commissioning, including detailed commissioning and quality performance planning.
- Engage in pre-construction Engineering Reviews, including Safety Reviews and Project Planning.
- Monitor construction progress and assist in resolving construction, installation, and scheduling issues.
- Communicate with Project Stakeholders systematically and promptly about commissioning plans and progress.
- Lead Management of Change (MOC) activities as necessary to ensure safe and quality commissioning of processes or equipment.
- Manage all pre-commissioning, commissioning, and checkout aspects, including initial energization, chemical loading, heat-up, and start-up of new processes, equipment, and associated systems.
- Understand the project scope, PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams), schedules, and goals to ensure they are met. Assist in reviewing process packages (PP), design stages (30%/60%/90%), project charters, P&IDs (Process and Instrument Diagrams), and process layouts. Review final construction packages for startup tasks, representing the interests of operations and maintenance teams throughout engineering and construction.
- Attend progress meetings to foresee and prevent problems affecting safety, timing, cost, or quality. Collaborate with the Project Manager and Construction Rep to fix issues without interrupting work.
- Understand construction packages to ensure contract terms are followed and communicate effectively with the Construction Rep.
- Know and help complete construction acceptance checklists.
- Review project plans to confirm equipment and piping are installed correctly and approve any changes.
- Identify critical times for construction shutdowns and tie-ins.
- Collaborate with Quality Inspectors and operators to ensure equipment is protected and ready for commissioning.
- Support Quality Inspectors and travel to suppliers for equipment inspections if needed.
- Work with construction, maintenance, and building teams to create pre-commissioning and commissioning schedules and plans.
- Keep leaders and team members informed about activities, plans, problems, and progress.
- Promote collaboration between plant, project teams, and other startup groups.
- Collaborate regularly with the project manager, process engineer, or discipline coordinator on critical issues.
- Participate in schedule updates and reviews to spot potential delays and provide progress updates to the manufacturing representative and Site Management as needed.
- Assist in managing changes related to engineering and construction projects.
- Work with project, construction, and manufacturing teams to review RFIs and determine if scope or field changes are needed.
- Help process engineers with design phase change requests (ECN, NCCN, SCR) to meet safety, environmental, operability, maintainability, or design requirements.
- Focus on conserving capital and controlling costs while ensuring safety and functionality.
- Collaborate with teams to set and meet startup goals aligned with site plans, quality goals, and customer requirements.
- Support startup goals using IT tools like SAP Data Handling, PI Points, and QA/Sample Manager.
- Prepare and share the process equipment conditioning plan with startup, manufacturing, and production teams and help implement it.
- Contribute to developing SOPs and training plant operators.
- Complete necessary documentation for project turnover to manufacturing.
- Ensure punch list items are addressed and action items are closed in GIMS.
- Close all MOCs within 60 to 90 days of startup completion.
- Document and compare capacity test results with design specifications.
- Provide a detailed report on the commissioning process, including problems, lessons learned, and recommendations for future startups.
- Issue final startup documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Chemical or Mechanical)
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, or related support functions
- Strong analytical problem-solving and communications skills
- Proactive in moving projects and initiatives forward.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as closely with cross-functional teams.
- Must be a US citizen or Green card holder
