Sirius Staffing is seeking a proven, hands-on Sawmill Superintendent in Opelika, AL. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving safety, operational performance, and team development within a large-scale manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the sawmill department
  • Serve as a role model for safety, quality, teamwork, and professional conduct
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to supervisors and hourly employees
  • Manage departmental performance related to cost, overtime, absenteeism, and employee effectiveness
  • Partner with operations and maintenance teams to improve reliability and maximize equipment availability at the lowest practical cost
  • Ensure supervisors have the manpower, tools, and support needed to maintain dependable equipment performance
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and report on systems related to personnel development, cost control, system design, and equipment availability
  • Manage departmental costs aggressively while maintaining focus on safety, quality, and manufacturing efficiency
  • Communicate goals, expectations, and key performance metrics clearly across the team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational discipline
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop a team
  • Experience supervising larger teams, ideally 10–15 employees or more
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude
  • Excellent communication, conflict management, coaching, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Detail-oriented and results-driven
  • Financial planning and budgeting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in a sawmill, lumber, or wood products environment strongly preferred
  • Military leadership background is a plus
  • Candidates with a paper manufacturing background will not be considered
Additional Information
  • Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, with most team members working 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Rotating on-call weekend responsibility, approximately 1 weekend per month
  • This is a backfill position due to internal movement within the organization
  • The Opelika operation is a lumber mill, and West Fraser’s public site lists Opelika among its lumber mill locations
  • Relocation assistance is available, with preference for local to regional candidates
