Material Handler
Job Description
Sirius Staffing is seeking Material Handlers for a position in Visalia, CA. This is a full-time, temp-to-perm opportunity to work in a warehouse distribution center. The Material Handler will play a key role in managing inventory, preparing shipments, and ensuring compliance with shipping regulations in a fast-paced distribution environment.
Pay: $18.50/hr
Hours: 8a-4:30p (M-Th) & 7a-3:30p (F)
What you will need:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in a warehouse environment is preferred.
- Proficient in using PCs, scanners, printers, shipping equipment (e.g., meters, tape machines), and cutting tools.
- Basic understanding of shipping regulations.
- Experience with hazardous materials is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to read, speak, and understand English at all staff levels.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, pay strong attention to detail, and adapt to changing priorities
Physical Requirements:
- While performing warehouse or distribution duties, the employee may need to sit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, or crawl for long periods, and remain on their feet for up to eight hours.
- The employee must be able to talk, hear, taste, and smell.
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds unassisted occasionally.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, along with the ability to adjust focus.
Essential Job Functions
- Load and unload freight as needed and receive materials from outside vendors.
- Store products using a scanner or computer system, and select and store materials using narrow aisle, wire-guided machines, including “operator up” machines and other powered industrial trucks.
- Operate forklifts and other required equipment to produce workload documentation and safely handle materials.
- Locate, move, deliver, or return materials to their designated areas.
- Prepare materials for shipment, ensuring all appropriate labels and markings are applied to comply with company procedures and hazardous materials regulations (DOT, IATA, IMO).
- Scan or meter products into the shipping system and pack materials according to established procedures and safety regulations.
- Track and document the movement of materials accurately and perform inventory audits to ensure the accuracy of inventory and locations.
- Follow procedures for conducting full location audits and verifying chemicals, catalog numbers, lot numbers, special requests, unit sizes, and weights against order documentation.
- Organize and maintain warehouse areas by condensing, straightening, and ensuring a safe working environment.
- Work with team leads and supervisors to troubleshoot system issues and assist with training new employees.
- Report unsafe or potentially unsafe conditions to team leads or management.
- Handle miscellaneous duties, projects, and tasks as assigned, maintain exemplary attendance, and adhere to schedules.
- Process 2-step goods receipts and handle the canning of materials.
- Schedule dock appointments for carriers and communicate with Procurement to resolve any product discrepancies or issues.
- Process CONF orders for shipment and coordinate with Customer Interface Departments to address shipping issues and expedite priorities.
- Prepare hazardous shipping documentation and maintain accurate records of orders.
- Follow all Good Distribution Practices (GDP) where applicable.
Environmental Conditions:
Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and may be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, glasses/goggles, chemical-resistant suits, gloves, and safety shoes, to protect against toxic or corrosive chemicals in the forms of liquids, solids, vapors, or airborne particles. The work environment may also be wet, humid, and subject to extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
