Material Handling
Job Description
- Load and unload freight, utilizing scanner or computer systems for product placement.
- Operate narrow aisle, wire-guided machines such as forklifts to select and store materials.
- Produce necessary documents for workload using forklift equipment.
- Locate, move, deliver, and return materials to designated areas.
- Prepare materials for shipment and accurately document all movements.
- Conduct inventory audits to ensure the accuracy of inventory locations.
- Verify chemicals, catalog numbers, lot numbers, and special requests against packing instructions.
- Apply required labels and markings to comply with hazardous materials regulations.
- Maintain warehouse areas by condensing, straightening, and performing general upkeep.
- Collaborate with team leads and supervisors to troubleshoot system issues and assist in training new employees.
- Report any unsafe conditions or hazards to management promptly.
- Operate powered and material-handling equipment safely.
- Receive materials from external vendors and pack hazardous items for shipment.
- Scan products into the shipping system and ensure compliance with hazard regulations.
- Process orders for shipment, ensuring proper markings and labels are applied.
- Select orders for processing and maintain records of orders.
- Process goods receipt and canning of material as needed.
- Schedule dock appointments for carriers and communicate with procurement regarding discrepancies or product issues.
- Handle CONF orders for shipment and communicate with Customer Interface Departments regarding shipping issues.
- Prepare hazardous shipping documentation and adhere to good distribution practices (GDP) where applicable.
- High School Diploma, or equivalent
- One year of work experience preferred. Shipping regulation knowledge or experience is helpful. Experience with hazardous materials is helpful.
- Ability to effectively communicate professionally with all levels of staff both orally and written.
- Ability to read, hear, speak, and understand the English language.
- Ability to work in a group setting.
- Ability to operate PCs, scanners, printers, CRTs, shipping equipment (meters, tape machines, etc.), and various cutting instruments.
- Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
- Ability to understand basic shipping regulations.
- Ability to work quickly and adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
