Mechanical Engineer

Job Description
- Create overall basis of design and parameters to be followed for specific processes/project
- Prepare engineering calculations, documents, and equipment specifications to meet scope of work while applying good judgement and engineering principles for HVAC, hydronic, and plumbing systems
- Generate detailed equipment specifications, complete technical bid evaluations, and approve final equipment selections and drawing submittals
- Establish and manage mechanical engineering schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
- Ensure quality and technical accuracy of project deliverables by following Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards
- Provide technical engineering support to other departments
- Perform advanced HVAC calculations such as external static pressure, heat load calculations, and ventilation calculations for complicated systems.
- Create Air Flow Diagrams, Temperature Control Diagrams, P&ID and/or Utility Flow Diagrams, and Utility Summary
- Assist in development of overall plant layouts indicating anticipated mechanical equipment and clearances required, ductwork layout, and pipe routings
- Create sequence of operation/functional specification associated with controls required for mechanical equipment and coordination with Instrumentation for specifications when required
- Develop capital cost estimates when required
- Travel to client sites to gather and document field data
- Maintain, report, and communicate project status and progress to project manager
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- 8+ years prior experience required in food, chemical, or pharmaceutical facilities
- Experience performing Building Load Calculations, HVAC design, and selection of HVAC Equipment
- Experience in Hydronic system design and equipment selection including steam, hot water, chilled water, tower water
- Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Trane Trace 700, Psychometric, and Pipe Flo software.
- Possess a thorough understanding of ASHRAE design standards
- Knowledge in applicable codes and design standards, including NFPA, ASME, OSHA-PSM, Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection codes
- Familiarity with USDA, FDA, and ISO regulations
- Proficient written and oral communication, presentation, decision-making, conflict resolution, and leadership skills
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects
- Excellent client-facing communication skills
