 This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and assisting with maintaining control systems at the Hamilton plant. Ensure integrity of the plant control systems (DCS & PLCs) including infrastructure, backups, user access & security, data availability and system documentation. Support plant operations and maintenance by implementing innovative control strategies and processes. Ensures the operation of the plant in an environmentally responsible manner in compliance with all Safety, Health, and Environmental Policy.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and install process control applications (DCS & PLCs) throughout the facility.
  • Ensure that new process control installations adhere to established standards.
  • Create and maintain Simulation, Testing, and Training programs for Control Systems.
  • Implement new controls for automation improvements.
  • Manage third-party software applications integration (e.g., Foxray/System Auditor, Automize Report Writer).
  • Develop and maintain a 5-yr/10-yr rolling plan to prevent obsolescence of hardware/software.
  • Establish and enforce plant standards for process controls.
  • Participate in the design, planning, construction, supervision, and commissioning of approved plant upgrades.
  • Manage support contracts for DCS & PLC systems, including hardware and software upgrades.
  • Oversee the Modular Exchange Program (MEP) for warranty-covered hardware.
  • Be responsible for Alarm Management, assisting Process Engineers with reducing nuisance alarms and reporting Alarm KPIs.
  • Understand and program using standard control blocks, ladder logic, and high-level batch language sequence code.
  • Support the development of Advanced Process Control (APC) initiatives.
  • Participate and support Center of Excellence (CoE) teams for Process Controls as needed.
  • Develop and enforce standards for graphic designs, tag configuration, historization, alarming, and communication between control systems.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Safety Instrumented functions to mitigate risks identified in HAZOP/LOPA studies as needed.
  • Develop, install, and maintain applications of third-party software to the control systems (e.g., Excel VBA Reporting, AIM*AT Historian, OSI PI Historian, ExperTune).
 
 Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering field or Computer Science-related discipline is required.
  • Experience with DCS and Allen Bradley PLC or equivalent hardware systems.
  • Previous experience in industrial controls and continuous process environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Programming experience with applications such as VBA/VB, C++, Sequential Logic, Ladder Logic, etc.
  • Experience with Alarm Management and Triconex Safety PLC System is a plus.
  • Knowledge of integrating and networking PC’s and PLC’s (TCP/IP, Ethernet).
  • Familiarity with Fieldbus Communication Networks (DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet, etc.) is advantageous.
