Buyer III - Direct Hire opportunity 
Tuscaloosa, AL 
Salary range: $85,000–$95,000/year + Annual bonus opportunity 
Relocation assistance available

This procurement role supports purchasing strategies across engineered equipment, spare parts, chemicals, and contractual services. You’ll play a strategic part in sourcing decisions, supplier management, and continuous improvement efforts. 

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Lead sourcing, bid evaluation, negotiation, and procurement of engineered equipment, spare parts, chemicals, materials, and services.
  • Develop short- and long-term supplier agreements that optimize cost, quality, and schedule while leveraging company spend data.
  • Implement and support e-procurement technologies, including EDI, to improve inventory management and purchasing efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering firms, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing solutions.
  • Analyze market conditions and supply chain risks to identify and act on opportunities or disruptions.
  • Identify and qualify new suppliers based on cost, reliability, and total cost of ownership.
  • Take corrective action on supplier performance issues and ensure alignment with company expectations.
  • Review and process purchase orders, contracts, and documentation in the company’s ERP system (Oracle/JD Edwards EnterpriseOne).
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews and resolve discrepancies with invoices and freight charges.
  • Research technical product information and conduct value analyses to ensure cost-effective procurement.
  • Participate in team knowledge sharing and cross-training while mentoring junior team members, as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company purchasing standards, contractual requirements, and documentation (insurance, licenses, lien waivers, etc.).
  • Support strategic company-wide procurement goals and initiatives with minimal supervision.
 
What We’re Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or Supply Management
  • 6+ years of progressive purchasing experience—preferably in petroleum refining, petrochemical, or chemical processing industries
  • Strong knowledge of engineered and highly specialized equipment
  • Proficiency in enterprise purchasing systems and business application software (Oracle/JD Edwards preferred)
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
  • High level of initiative, business acumen, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and uphold ethical standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license required
