Electrical Project Engineer
Full Time Non-Executive
Pascagoula, MS
General Function: The Electrical Project Engineer assists the Senior Project Engineer in leading, overseeing, and managing project-specific engineering tasks and in serving as the primary engineering interface for internal and external stakeholders. Core responsibilities include conducting review, assessments, and approval of engineering and program products, performing research and analyses, processing documents and certifications, managing schedules, monitoring engineering design status and manning, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, directing actions, and providing technical support to staff as necessary. In addition to reporting directly to the Senior Project Engineer, the Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for implementing policies and monitoring operations to ensure that engineering projects under their cognizance adhere to project contract and regulatory specifications and all discrepancies are corrected in a timely manner.
The Electrical Project Engineer’s primary focus is on shipboard electrical systems including power, lighting, interior communications, control systems, and electronics. The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for integrating these electrical systems with other systems onboard the ship. The candidate should possess a strong knowledge in shipboard electrical systems and should also understand their inter-relationships and inter-dependencies to other systems. Candidate should be able to think broadly at the ship system level but also possess the ability to understand and solve micro electrical engineering problems.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
- Works closely with engineering managers and leads to identify project priorities and scope while ensuring adherence to schedule with quality products delivered that satisfy contract and regulatory specifications and production needs.
- Assist with project meetings with the customer, subcontractors, and program and production management to ensure alignment and mitigate risk areas.
- Attend weekly design meetings to review schedule and status. Discuss pending issues and assist with providing solutions as required.
- Coordinate communication within the Engineering department and between Engineering and other departments and the customer.
- Review engineering products to identify risks and initiate actions to mitigate those risks prior to construction.
- Review and approve electrical engineering products from within the Engineering department and between Engineering and other departments.
- Manage development, review, approval and reports from the Engineering department’s knowledge management system (KMS).
- Develop and present technical program metrics, schedules, and slide presentations to both internal and external senior management.
- Represent the Engineering department for electrical engineering matters with information and communication between the production team, regulatory bodies, and program management.
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with communication skills, both in written and oral form.
- Complete familiarity with ABS, IEEE, CFR, USCG, NVIC, SOLAS, and other rules that may apply to projects.
- Able to schedule and direct work on multiple jobs.
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, AutoCAD, NavisWorks, ABS, DNV, USCG and marine standard practices.
Desired but not required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field or Master of Science in Engineering or Management preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills, strong analytical skills, ability to work in a team environment and strong computer literacy are desired.
- Able to recognize capabilities of project team members and organize them into an effective and efficient team.
- Experience in both commercial and military programs is a plus.
Experience & Training:
Five (5) years of engineering or related experience and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field or Master of Science in Engineering or Management OR 12 years of experience in progressive design development and/or construction of marine projects preferred.
