Sirius Staffing is seeking a Rail Car Operator for a contract with the potential to go permanent opportunity in Theodore, AL. Please contact us today for more information.
 
Schedule:
Work 12-hour shifts 12 am – 12 pm (7 days on, 7 off)
 
Rate: 
23-33hr.
 
The logistics Rail Operator position is responsible for all rail car movement onsite, including raw materials and finished products. These responsibilities include the weighing and inspection of inbound cars, movement of cars to site storage, movement of cars to and from the plant location, weighing and shipping of outbound rail cars, and rail track/switch reliability. All movements must be tracked and the logistics tracking tools must be maintained for any relevant information, and site inventory accuracy.
 
Responsibilities:
Switching plants
  • Take cars to and from plant loading station areas
  • Verify loading equipment is disconnected
  • Aligning track switches in the correct position for entry and exit
  • Check safety equipment: wheel chocks, derailer, hand brakes
  • Complete 360 walk-around 
Weighing and Inspections
  • Weigh inbound and outbound cars via rail scale
  • Maintain Weighmaster certificate status
  • Inspect inbound car safety components such as wheels, trucks, brake assemblies, underframe, safety ap
  • Check hazard placards 
Sorting/Cutting Cars
  • Analyze the storage yard to determine the proper placement of inbound cars
  • Manage storage yard to keep first in first out method available to avoid demurrage
  • Cut out special request cars
  • Filling out Paperwork
  • Maintain scale ticket records
  • Maintain BOL's for outbound rail cars
  • Maintain sump log records
  • Maintain switching spreadsheet 
  • Updating Computer Records
  • Enter billing for outbound rail cars within CSX system
  • Update logistics inventory tools to maintain car location accuracy
  • Receive and communicate to BOL's about rail car requests
  • Complete site training
  • Complete tare weight check of locomotive Meeting CSX
  • Be primary representative for weekend services by CSX
  • Ensure outbound cars are in compliance
  • Ensure service is ready to take place
 
Qualifications:
  • Candidates MUST have 1-2 years exp with rail car/short line 
  • Rail car experience 
  • Setting/cutting cars
  • Moving cars to and from the plant loading station
  • Rail switching 
  • Manage storage yard
  • Work 12 hour shifts 12am – 12pm (7 days on, 7 off)
