Sr. Electrical Designer
Job Description
Sirius Staffing is seeking a Sr. Electrical Designer for a long-term project in Theodore, AL. Must have extensive experience in the chemical, natural gas, or petro industry. This role focuses on the design and support of power and control systems from 480V up to 15kV, including hazardous locations.

The Senior Electrical Designer will work full-time under the management of an Electrical Engineer and will be open to traveling to other sites in the USA. (Travel will be reimbursed) Must work on-site at least 3 days a week.
Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical design for small to large (brownfield) projects in an operating chemical plant
- Apply NFPA-70 (NEC), NFPA-70E, NFPA-496, and NFPA-497 to designs, including hazardous area classification and equipment selection for classified locations.
- Accompany engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering at the facility.
- Design power distribution systems from 480V up to 15kV, including substations, 15kV switchgear, 5kV medium-voltage starters/VFDs, and 480V low-voltage smart motor control centers.
- Develop designs for overhead power-line distribution, cable tray systems, and underground duct bank systems.
- Design electrical heat trace systems, grounding systems, and lightning protection systems.
- Perform lighting design for commercial and industrial facilities.
- Design security, camera, fire alarm, and communication systems.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other engineering disciplines and departments throughout the project lifecycle.
- Utilize AutoCAD 2019 or later, BricsCAD, and 3D modeling tools for electrical design, including cable and cable tray routing. AVEVA experience
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, drawings, and design calculations using Microsoft Word and Excel.
Requirements:
- 15+ years of electrical design experience in the chemical industry.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency with AutoCAD 2019 or later, BricsCAD, Microsoft Word, and Excel; experience with 3D modeling for electrical design (cable and tray routing).
- Must have a strong working knowledge of NFPA-70 (NEC), NFPA-70E, NFPA-496, and NFPA-497.
- Demonstrated experience with hazardous area classification and selection/application of electrical equipment and installations in hazardous locations.
- Experience with power distribution systems from 480V to 15kV, substations, medium-voltage equipment, and low-voltage MCCs.
- Experience with overhead power lines, cable tray systems, and underground duct bank design.
- Experience in electrical heat trace design, grounding, lightning protection, and industrial/commercial lighting design.
- Experience with ABB, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Yaskawa, and similar variable frequency drives.
- Experience with auxiliary backup diesel generators, UPS systems, and 24VDC control power systems.
- Self-motivated, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a project team in an active chemical plant environment.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting, commissioning, checkout, and start-up support for power and control systems is a plus
