Job Description

 Sirius Staffing is seeking a Senior Process Engineer for a direct hire opportunity in Tuscaloosa, AL. This role provides technical support for a designated refinery area and offers training to Process Engineers, Economists, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Operations Specialists, and operating personnel.

The Senior Process Engineer will lead larger, long-term projects that exceed the scope of Process Engineers, handling project conception, development, and process design while balancing multiple priorities.

Rate: $150K-160K yearly + 20% incentive  

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Chemical Engineer in a refinery or chemical plant setting.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder).
  • Strong understanding of refinery processes and related operations.
  • Proven experience in refinery planning or process equipment design.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize operations, improve profitability, and reduce costs within a refinery.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective collaborator, able to work with management, engineers, and hourly personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead training sessions of 2 to 20 participants.
  • Proficiency in refinery process simulation and design software.

  • Availability to provide technical support during turnarounds, including holidays and night shifts.
  • Must be able to obtain certification for respiratory protection, including the use of a full-face mask and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Tasks may include routine maintenance, operations activities, and emergency rescue in hazardous conditions.
  • Requires sufficient pulmonary and respiratory health and adherence to facial hair regulations to ensure a proper seal with the facepiece.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Senior Technical Support for Personnel:
  • Monitor assigned areas and overall refinery operations, advising management and engineering on emerging issues.
  • Guide technical staff in planning, troubleshooting, and unit support.
  • Assist in training technical, management, and hourly personnel.
  • Conduct technical reviews of designs, MOCs, and change orders.
  • Troubleshoot refinery issues by assessing field conditions, applying engineering principles, and collaborating with Operations personnel. This engineer should be a go-to resource for Operations and Engineering teams based on expertise and problem-solving skills.
 
Project Development: 
  • Identify minor and major refinery changes that are needed to improve the safety, reliability, profitability, environmental compliance, etc., of process units or systems.
  • Lead long-term process development and new product line initiatives to enhance refinery profitability.
  • Scope out, develop, and provide process design of refinery projects.
  • Obtain support and/or funding for major projects.
  • Assist in commissioning, troubleshooting, and procedural improvements for major unit or system modifications.
  • Serve as coordinator or manager for long-range programs such as PSM compliance.
 
Advisory and Support Responsibilities:
  • Provide senior technical advisory support to management and refinery departments.
  • Advise management on both technical and non-technical personnel performance and potential.
  • Offer broad refinery-wide technical expertise to support various departments requiring cross-plant knowledge.
